What do we do?
“It’s all about the transformation of gnarled and knotted pieces of untouched, raw timber…into pristine, quality furniture.”
Over the past 18 years, exquisitely handcrafted furniture made from premium grade recycled timbers, has been passing through the doors of the Greenough workshop and gallery belonging to master artisan Max Royce. His unique ability to see the potential in every texture and contour of the wood he works with, has been finely honed since the production of his first handmade piece in 1992.
Max’s designs often incorporate relatively simple lines to enable the ‘timber to do the talking’. His careful choice of wood captures the natural warmth and beauty of the grain. The delicately crafted yet strikingly wrought furniture now takes pride of place in hundreds of homes and offices, and visitors from around the world call in to Max’s gallery and workshop on the historic and picturesque Greenough Flats.
Each piece of furniture is stamped with the place and date of the timber’s origin, and fitted with a numbered brass plaque for authenticity. Max’s records show that now, in 2010, that number has just exceeded 500. Since the very first plaque was affectionately fitted into place, every piece of furniture has left the workshop with the same degree of thought and attention. This is combined with the reflection of Max’s love for the depth, colour and charming rusticity he sees in the wood he has used to create it.
Max and his small team at the reputable Greenough Woodworks are highly regarded throughout the Midwest region. They guarantee the highest quality of furniture production, bringing art and nature together with precision craftsmanship.
